More than 25 years after first being introduced to audiences on Making the Band, OTOWN remains one of the most recognizable groups to emerge from the turn-of-the-millennium pop era, transforming an unconventional beginning into an enduring career.
Formed in 2000 on the groundbreaking ABC reality series Making the Band, OTOWN was signed by legendary music executive Clive Davis as the first act on his newly formed J Records. Their self-titled 2001 debut entered the Billboard 200 at No. 5, earned platinum certification in the United States and sold more than three million copies worldwide. Breakout single “Liquid Dreams” reached the Billboard Hot 100 Top 10, while “All or Nothing” climbed to No. 3, becoming the group’s signature hit and an enduring early-2000s pop favorite.
After disbanding in 2003 and spending the following decade pursuing individual careers, Jacob Underwood, Trevor Penick, Erik-Michael Estrada and Dan Miller reunited, beginning a new chapter defined by creative independence and a renewed connection with the fans who had grown up alongside them.
The group returned with Lines & Circles in 2014, followed by the Part 1 EP in 2017 and The O.T.W.N. Album in 2019. Their independent era has been powered in large part by an exceptionally loyal fanbase, including a fan-funded campaign for new music that reached its initial goal in just seven hours.
Today, OTOWN maintains an active touring career, performing 65+ shows each year and appearing regularly on the Pop 2000 Tour. Their YouTube series, Being the Band, brings their story full circle, offering audiences a behind-the-scenes look at the friendship, work and personalities behind the group more than two decades after cameras first documented their formation.
Now celebrating more than 25 years together, OTOWN has grown far beyond the television experiment that introduced them. With an enduring catalog, generations of fans and new music including “Certified Delulu,” Underwood, Penick, Estrada and Miller continue to honor their history while finding new ways to move the band forward.
